GAMMIL LONG ARM USAGE INFORMATION
Usage and charges:
- You have the use of the machine for the entire day, during business opening hours.
- Charge is 99¢ per square foot (L x W/144 x .99). For example, for a queen sized quilt that is 92" x 98" the charge would be $62.61
92 x 98 = 9016/144 = $62.61 - There is a $30 minimum charge for the day; you would pay either the $30 or the fee calculated by dimensions, whichever is greater (you do not pay both fees.)
- You supply backing and batting. We have many wide backings available and two types of 108" wide batting on rolls.
- Thread is provided as a part of the rental fee. If there is a specific thread color you know you are going to want and that we do not currently have in stock, please notify us well in advance of your rental day so that we have time to order the thread without paying additional shipping charges.
- In order to use the machine you must either have taken the class or demonstrate proficiency in setting up and using the machine. We require this because of the cost of maintenance and repair to the machine and because of the additional time required by staff to assist someone who is not proficient with the machine. (See details below regarding class.)
Set up:
- Instructions and diagrams for loading and set up are posted on the wall in the long arm room. Staff assistance is available as necessary; we ask that you look at the diagrams BEFORE asking staff for assistance.
- Backing fabric should be at least 2" larger than quilt top on all sides.
- For your ease in loading and quilting, quilt top should be as close to a perfect square or rectangle as possible. If your borders have been added such that there are dog earred corners instead of right angle corners, you will have difficulty loading the quilt top on the machine without bunching and wrinkles.
Design:
- There are a number of quilt design templates in the long arm room, both for freehand and for use with the for all over designs. There are also attachments which may be used to quilt in either circles or rectangles. (Staff assistance is available in helping you to load and udnerstand the use of the attachments.)
Cleaning after usage:
Please leave the machine and the room in the same (or better) condition than you found it.
This includes the following:
- All lint removed from machine tracks, bobbin case and needle area
- Canvas rolled and draped ready for the next quilt to be loaded
- All thread and bobbins returned to storage on the shelves, please leave the machine threaded for the next person!
- Any templates, attachments, tools, etc. returned to the storage shelves.
- Sweep floor and remove all stray lint and thread from the area
Staff will conduct a room inspection at the time you check out. Failure to do the above cleaning will result in a $10 cleaning fee to cover the cost of staff time to perform the cleaning.
Donated usage:
There is no charge for the use of the machine to quilt comfort quilts (through the Guild, Project Linus, etc.) or Quilts of Valor
To take advantage of this donated usage, we ask that you do not sign up in advance but rather call for same day or next day usage of unscheduled days
Class information:
The class is offered on a periodic basis. If no class is scheduled and you are interested, please let the front counter staff know so that we may schedule a class.
Class fee is $60. This includes a 3 hour usage of the machine on a date within 60 days after the class is taken.
If your usage is greater than 3 hours, we calculate the size of the quilt and the cost, then subtract $30 from that total to arrive at the amount due.
The 60 day limit is set in order to ensure that you practice on the machine while the information is still fresh in your mind. We have discovered through experience, that if a student does not use the machine within 60 days (30 is even better) they have forgotten most of what they learned and staff has to spend a great deal of time in reteaching.
