Simple Sampler Beginner’s
"Block of the Month
"
Starting in September!

This is a great opportunity for someone just starting out or for an experienced quilter.  A gorgeous focus fabric with lots of color options, and a very reasonable price for nine one hour classes!  Each month you will receive the pattern for either one or two blocks (12 blocks total), a piece of focus fabric for that month’s block(s), and instruction on constructing the block(s), along with piecing and quilting tips and techniques.  This is an educational class and we hope EVERY quilter wanting to become more confident will take this low key, friendly program. Sessions are lecture and demo; bringing "show and tell" is very welcome. Registration is limited by the amount of fabric we have available, so you'll want to reserve your spot now.   Contact the shop for a complete list of blocks and more details.  Samples are up on the design wall now!

For our Simple Sampler we're keeping the requirements simple.  Registration is $25 for 9 months of classes.  Then you pay $5 at the first class for the pattern and fabric, if you return each month with a completed block or blocks, you pay no additional fees.  We ask that you purchase your fabrics from us (with the 10% discount for class supplies).  You may select the same fabrics used in the samples, or we are happy to help you select fabrics that coordinate with the focus, yet make your quilt unique.

2010 Brown Bag Block of the Month -- A Year of Stars:

A Year of Stars . . .. piecing, paper piecing, set in seams, maybe some 3 dimensional aspects, some opportunities to use piping, and who knows what else . . . I decide as I design!
Three setting options: On Point, Horizontal, Or Applause and Trumpets which is my favorite, a field of stars created by setting the star blocks in a background of the same fabric as the  block background so the stars float across the quilt in several sizes.  (see the picture below).  This is the one I'm going to do – I love it!!  The shop is bringing in several fabrics appropriate for the background – shades from midnight to teal.

Samples of the first few stars will start showing up in December.  I've designed most of the blocks but am still refining and coming up with new ideas, so you  may not see all the blocks until the months in which they are presented (that's part of the fun -- a semi-mystery quilt!)  You will be able to get a good idea from looking at the enclosed samples of layouts with the blocks I've designed thus far.  Also, check out the 2010 Brown Bag Block web site  (see link below) for more details and pictures.
